DREAM ACT SUPPORTERS ESCORTED OUT AFTER PROTESTING INSIDE MITT ROMNEY’S MASSACHUSSETS VICTORY RALLY

Boston, MA– While speaking about the promise of America and the need to fix the economy at his Massachusetts victory rally, Mitt Romney’s speech was interrupted. Undocumented youth, who managed to enter the event, held up “VETO ROMNEY, NOT THE DREAM ACT” posters. As he finished his sentence, one of the protesters shouted “then why would you veto the DREAM Act Sir.” They continued to shout “we love this country; we want to serve this country.”

Romney himself has been in hot water over his anti-Latino community self-deportation policy. This has pushed a wedge between him and the vital, growing Latino vote.

At the same time, the Latino and immigrant community are realizing that Romney and the Republican establishment are resorting to hateful rhetoric and policies.  This is consistent with his history in Massachusetts, unilaterally vetoing measures to give undocumented students in-state tuition, pushing him further away from mainstream America.

As indicated in a recent poll, Obama carries the support of Latinos 6 to 1. Although Massachusetts’ Latino population is only 9.6%, his record will make a difference in other states.  One such State, Arizona, where almost 30% of the population is Latino, has turned from a Red State to a Purple State, where Democrats have a legitimate chance to win. DREAMers will continue to confront and organize against those who attack the DREAM Act and our families, like Romney and those who voted no on the bill in 2010.
