WASHINGTON, D.C – Pope Francis address a joint session of Congress to delivered a message of compassion and urging the world to respond with humanity, not hostility, to refugees streaming across borders. Cesar Vargas and Erika Andiola, co-directors of the Dream Action Coalition, issued the following statement:

“We were touched by the Pope’s story as the son of immigrants. His message certainly touched the American people and we were encourage that many Republicans applauded the Pope’s immigration message. We just hope that such applause translates into real action to pass immigration reform. While we are not holding our breaths, we are hoping that the Pope’s message resonated in Republicans and Democrats’ hearts and minds.”
