UNDOCUMENTED YOUTH DELIVERED 8,000 PETITIONS TO GOP CANDIDATES BEFORE AZ PRIMARIES DEMANDING TO STOP THEIR ANTI-IMMIGRANT RHETORIC

The Arizona Dream Act Coalition continues to keep the pressure before the Arizona primaries turning in 8,000 signatures, gathered by undocumented youth, to the Arizona Republican Party headquarters. The youth walked the streets of Arizona to talk to the Latino community and asked them to sign petitions sending a clear message to Romney and the GOP candidates that attacks on the DREAM Act and the immigrant community, through anti-immigrant laws, will no longer be tolerated. Reactions from the community to the candidates varied from anger and frustration, to wanting to change their party affiliation from Republican to Independent.

Governor Romney just keeps digging himself into a deeper hole when it comes to getting the Latino vote. First he receives the endorsement and immigration policy advice from SB 1070 co-author, Kris Kobach, and now has accepted the endorsement of one of the most hostile and anti-immigrant Governors, Jan Brewer. Kobach’s, and now Romney’s idea would make life so hostile to undocumented families that they will choose to depart of their own volition – “self-deportation”, as Kobach calls it. Romney went so far as to say that he believes that SB-1070 should be a model for the rest of the country.
