PRESS RELEASE – ROMNEY WILL REPEAL DEFERRED ACTION UNLESS HE SAYS OTHERWISE

MIAMI, FL – On Wednesday evening, Mitt Romney appeared on Univision’s Meet the Candidate event surrounded by supporters. Despite being pressed by Univision’s Maria Salinas, Romney once again avoided the question on whether he would repeal “Deferred Action.” On June 15th, President Obama issued a directive to grant deferred action that lifted the shadow of deportation from young undocumented students and grant them the ability to work for two years.

U.S Citizenship and Immigration Services recently released figures indicating that only 72,000 young people had apply, a low figure since nearly a million DREAMers qualify. Some are attributing this low number to the concern of DREAMers on what would happen with Deferred Action in a Romney presidency. Will he use the information to enforce his “self-deportation” or would reach sensible ground on immigration and continue the program until legislative action is taken?

Although Romney is incredibly secretive, his rhetoric on immigration was clear during the primaries, and it isn’t difficult to speculate that he would END the program. DREAMers and the Latino community call for an answer.
